THE Animal Anti Cruelty League’s (AACL) outreach team will be setting up a mobile clinic in Jackson’s Drift, south of Johannesburg area on May 27 to assist the community in taking better care of animals.
This comes after the organisation identified new areas in need of primary veterinary care to be assisted by the AACL’s chief veterinarian, inspectorate and many of the AACL’s staff members who will attend the programme and lend a hand to the community.
The decision on which area and period to host the outreach programme is usually determined after various assessments on the level of need for a particular community and its socio-economic circumstances.
The AACL also handles logistics prior to the outreach which includes services available, the size of the community, the number of animals, as well as the ever-important question of whether or not there is sufficient funding available to provide subsidised care.
During the outreach, basic animal health care will be offered while animal vaccinations, including rabies and deworming, will be at the community’s service.
It is important to note the AACL’s education unit will also hold important talks with the community on basic animal health care, dog bite prevention and rabies and sterilisation.
This outreach initiative comes as a collaborative effort between AACL Johannesburg and René Parker’s Paw Rangers – a group of children from the community who are the eyes and ears assisting in identifying cases of animal health care needs within the community.
