JOHANNESBURG South Garden Club recently enjoyed guest speaker Suzette Madden’s talk on “Trees, a Different Perspective”.
Suzette, from Corporate Green Landscaping, which specialises in indigenous gardens using primarily South African plant material, began her talk with a quote from British actress Judi Dench – “My life now is just trees, isn’t it, trees and, erm, champagne.”
She went on to chat about how trees function, communicate and nurture each other and how to protect trees from potential diseases.
“A possible shot hole borer infestation is threatening the tree population across the City of Johannesburg and this could spell disaster if it were to spread. The shot hole borer attacks a wide variety of tree species, as well as attacking living trees and feeds on fungus,” Suzette said.

The talk was enjoyed by the garden club members, who carried on an informal conversation with her while refreshments were served.
