THE Sri Adi Shankara Ashrama, commonly referred to as AUM Ashrama by many of its supporters, well-wishers and patrons, is making every effort to make this year’s Deepavali Grocery Hamper Drive the best ever since its inception in 1983.

Preparations for the 2018 Deepavali Grocery Hamper Project, intended for families that are economically disadvantaged due to poverty, job losses and other factors resulting in them not having access to the basic necessities of life, are under way and purchases should be finalised by the third week in October.

Sri Swami Shivashankarananda, Trustee of the Ashrama, said: “Apart from its spiritual activities such as the Satsangas, Meditation and Yoga, the Ashrama has for the past more than 30 years also played a pivotal role in reaching out to the needy, poor and indigent by way of its nutritional development programmes, grocery hamper drives, Winterwarm blanket distribution project and the like. This important spirit of giving and sharing with the lesser fortunate is the true meaning and purpose of the celebration of Deepavali. We therefore urge the community to support this venture in every manner possible so as to make it the success it has always been.”

To those that would like to support this project, the Ashrama banking details are as follows: Nedbank Savings Account, Account number: 2940 039 585, Branch Code: 198 765, Beneficiary: Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Society. Those who do an EFT should include their names as well as DHF (Diwali Hamper Fund) as reference. The cost of each hamper is R500.

For more details about the Deepavali Hamper Drive and the general activities of the Ashrama, kindly feel free to contact Swamiji or Mataji on 011 433 2940, 084 827 0494 or 083 324 5759.
