Who dug up a trench on corner of Mostert and Susan avenues in Glenanda?
“I’ve been fighting a losing battle for all this time with regards to the open trench on my pavement.”
A RESIDENT who lives on the corner of Mostert and Susan avenues in Glenanda is furious with whoever dug up her pavement and has left it open for literally nine months.
“I’ve been fighting a losing battle for all this time with regards to the open trench on my pavement. I’ve met with Vumatel, City Power, Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) and Telkom, none of which have taken ownership of the illegal trench. Each one points fingers at the other.
“When I asked if JRA could come and close it and I was told it would be a wasteful expenditure on their part, however, should they attend to it, all services would be terminated. I told them my concern is my property would be affected. The response was this would be the only way they would identify who was responsible for the trench left open,” she said.
She has tried to organise a meeting with all who could be involved but to no avail and now she still sits with the pavement dug up and a huge mess.
“This pavement is used by many children walking to Glenanda Primary School and back every day. It’s a danger and no one seems to give a damn.”
The resident has been in contact over the months with her local Ward 23 DA councillor Sarah Wissler, who also can’t seem to get to the bottom of who is responsible for the open trench.
“I’m hoping in going to this newspaper it may trigger the people/company who is responsible and hopefully the trench will be filled and my pavement repaved,” she added.
The CHRONICLE contacted Wissler, who said, “I’ve no idea who has left the pavement in this state with the trench open. It’s very frustrating.”
