AFTER the article, ‘Residents fuming’ (Comaro CHRONICLE, November 14, front page) residents, city officials, Ward 23 Clr Sarah Wissler and CIVTEK (developers) gathered for a meeting on November 13.
The residents threatened to park all their vehicles on the pavement in protest if work continues on Hantamberg Street, Glenvista.
Residents of Hantamberg Street are up in arms with the cutting away of part of their pavement to accommodate for the widened road and are not happy that the entrance to the school will be on their street and not on Bellairs Drive, as they were told originally.
“I am in full support of their demands and would request the way-leave be cancelled until a full investigation is done. I have been involved with this project with the residents for four years starting with a previous development which we stopped,” said Wissler.
“Me and the residents are not objecting to the school but rather the lack of communication and lack of public participation. I personally went to development planning to check the file to see the scope of work and there is no mention about the pavements. I believe there is an alternative and I request an urgent meeting with all concerned. As councillor for Ward 23 I am fully behind my residents and object to the pavements being removed and the entrance of the school in Hantamberg Street,” she added.
Richard van der Walt, Badresh Kooverjee and Johan Venter are representatives of the residents and will communicate with all residents.
“The residents feel they are being bullied and work is commencing without the correct way-leaves and approvals in place. There was no representation from Advtech (the private school being built) and Martin Van Heerden, the project manager, was not present either. The residents found this disrespectful,” they said.
