Celebrating love at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic School

However, at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic School, we tried to move away from the concepts of physical or romantic love.

TRADITIONALLY Valentine’s Day is a day that typically celebrates love, friendship and admiration. Many people celebrate this day by sending messages of charm and affection to their partners, family and friends.

However, at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic School, we tried to move away from the concepts of physical or romantic love and designed a day that focused on God’s love for us and our call to love others.

The learners at the school were shown a presentation on the life of St Valentine and how Valentine’s Day came about. Thereafter, each class from grade RR to Grade 9 decorated the classroom door with messages of God’s love. This was then followed by the learners making sandwiches which were put into bags and then into a ‘Love Box’. This box was then distributed by the parents and teachers later that day to the less fortunate in Alberton North.

This was an extremely fulfilling experience for the learners and teachers, allowing them to be reminded of the importance of love, community and charity.

Thank you to all those who donated bread and spreads for the Valentine’s Day charity drive.
