AUGUST 28 was a day filled with surprises and expectations when renovations started at Laerskool Theo Wassenaars’ library.
RAK Events and Standard Bank approached Laerskool Theo Wassenaar with a proposal of starting a school library.
The school had a library many years ago, but, it was always a project that took a backseat and was never a priority.
When Angel Mgayo from RAK Events approached the principal, Firzaana Tagari, was glad to accept the proposal after approval was given by the school governing body, but, she did not think that the revamp would take place that quick.
Within two days, Angel answered the principal’s prayers and had her team at the school working on the space that was to be used for the library.
“The school is so grateful to the team from RAK Events and Standard Bank for this initiative and we are so excited to have it opened to our children.
“There is still some groundwork that needs to be done, but by 2020 the doors to this magical space will be opened. This will be a way for the children to open their imaginations and enter a magical world,” said Tagari.

“The library will not be wasted space and we will ensure that all our learners make full use of the facility,” said Ms van Rayne, who has been enthusiastically been working with Mrs Tagari to kick off this project.
The SGB, staff and school would like to thank RAK Events and Standard Bank for ensuring that this dream was quickly turned to reality.
Some of the activities on the day were: painting of the pre-drawn murals in the library, covering of library books, making of the DIY ottomans, making of tyre furnisher, painting of Tetris shelving and making of DIY cushions.
