MULBARTON residents living on South Road have complained about the dangerous lack of road signs and speed bumps on this road.
One resident who moved into the house situated directly on the bend in 2017 stated there have been five accidents in the past two years, each one hitting the wall of their house.
There are no signs on the road warning drivers about the dangerous hairpin bend, which can be taken at no more than 20km/h, and only one car at a time.
Drivers tend to speed on this road only to be surprised by the sudden turn in the road, which is not only not signposted, but also badly lit.
The most recent accident happened in the late hours of September 7, when a driver took the turn at close to a 100km/h and smashed into the resident’s wall, completely demolishing their wall and gate.
This is the third time their house has been hit and the barrier next to their house is regularly crashed into as well.
South Road residents are calling on the municipality to act and erect speed bumps on the road, as well as signage, warning drivers about the dangerous turn and street post lights that are in working order.
Ward 23 councillor Sarah Wissler was approached for comment and urged residents to report broken street lights and stolen road signs to the correct authorities, and to petition for speed bumps. She also cautioned drivers to keep to speed limits and especially be more aware when driving at night.
Residents are invited to attend Integrated Development Plan (IDP) Submission meetings, which will take place on the following dates:
• Ward 54 at Mondeor Rec on September 21 from 8am to 2pm
• Ward 23 and 125 at Kibler Park Rec on October 12 from 8am to 2pm
• Ward 56 at Southern Suburbs on October 26 from 8am to 2pm
• Ward 55 at Turrfontein PS on November 2 from 8am to 2pm.
