Hartford College’s learners reduce, re-use and recycle

“Over the course of a school term our 170 learners collected a whopping one ton of plastic!”

PRINCIPAL of Hartford College, Nicola Forbes, says, “At our school we like to believe in the Star Fish story, whereby each one of us can make a difference in some small way.”

With this in mind the school began an inter class plastic collecting challenge and each week a trophy is awarded to the class that brings the most plastic (by weight) over the course of the week.

“At the end of a three-week period the class that has won the trophy most often gets to enjoy a Casual Clothing Friday.

“Well done children of Hartford College. Not only have we protected our environment, but we helped someone earn an honest living, as our local plastic pickers come to collect our plastic and haul it several kilometres to recycling depots,” added Forbes.

The Grade Four class was announced the winner on November 13 and they were overjoyed to be getting the opportunity to wear casual clothing on November 15.
