Rotary Youth Exchange programme participants explore the world

Rotary Youth Exchange: Johannesburg South 101 Club

OCTOBER 19 saw 67 Youth Exchange (YEX) students receive their regalia: the green and gold of their South African blazers and their kit.

It was a proud moment for the young students. Hailing from the southern suburbs, they have five ambassadors who have been selected to go overseas on the ‘short term’ programme. Six weeks overseas and will be hosted by a family, and also attend school in the city where they will be located. The students will live the culture and see the world in a different hemisphere, country and city.

Congratulations to Carmen Sardinha and Hershania and Uveshnee Govender. Carmen Sardinha will be exploring Argentina. This is her second consecutive December she will be celebrating Christmas with a host family.

Hershania Govender is also going to Argentina. Her sister, Uveshnee, is signed up for Italy. The two young women are from Marist Brothers, Linmeyer.

Douglas Haffner from Parktown Boys is going on the ‘long-term’ programme, and Norway will be his home for a year. Douglas hosted Ben Muller this year, a German YEX student, who hails from Lower Saxony, Hanover.

Makgoma Malemela, of St Martin’s School, will visit Brazil for six weeks.
