Good Samaritan makes a difference one cap at a time

In an aim to make a difference, a Brackendowns resident, Bennett Bolofo, donated plastic bottle caps to the Brackenhurst-based school on January 23.

In an aim to make a difference, a Brackendowns resident, Bennett Bolofo, donated plastic bottle caps to Brackenhurst Primary School on January 23.

Bolofo had been collecting caps from his household.

He said: “It took me about 18 months to gather all the caps and I had been keeping them in order to help make a difference in any way possible.

“I’ll continue to collect the caps and hand them over to the school.”

When 450kg of caps are collected, Interwaste Recycling purchases a wheelchair from Dischem for the school to donate to an organisation of their choice.

To date, the school has donated at least 19 wheelchairs over the past eight years.

They have donated to Amcare, Stepping Stone Hospice, Frances Vorwerg School and Spina Bifida Association of South Africa.

They currently stand on 380kg towards their next wheelchair.

Melody Pheiffer, a teacher at the school, thanked everyone for donations received and encouraged the community to help make a difference.

“We are grateful for donations received. Every contribution is very much appreciated and goes towards changing a life.

“Members of the community are welcome to contribute with either bread tags or bottle tops and may hand them over to the school,” she said.
