Sharp rise in Covid-19 cases in Ward 23

The reason is that community screening and testing were recently done at MOTS and Mulbarton Pick n Pay so an increase in numbers was to be expected.

“Our ward rate of infections as increased exponentially. The reason is that community screening and testing were recently done at MOTS and Mulbarton Pick n Pay so an increase in numbers was to be expected,” said Sarah Wissler, ward 23 councillor.

“The NICD are using geocoding to assign areas to the best of their ability via the labs in both the public & private sectors. It seems provincial and district officials have lumped suburbs together under one banner of Aspen. There is a possibility that we have numbers of people from other areas in there that just came to be tested at these centres,” she said.

I have contacted the Dept of Health and our MP Jack Bloom to assist so you can get the figures per suburb. We are working on that today and hopefully, by tomorrow, I’ll have a more accurate breakdown.

“I would still encourage social & physical distancing, washing hands, and sanitising. Wear your mask! Very importantly stay home if you don’t have to go out and be safe,” added Wissler.

Kind regards
Cllr Sarah Wissler
