Southside Sterilisation Assistance Project, also known as the Southside Steries, is an NPO which focuses on sterilisation and vaccinations.
“Sterilisation and vaccinations are our top priority in curbing the animal population and welfare issues that go along with owning a pet,” said one of the committee members, Sharon Huson.
The organisation is driven by Sharon, Nina Olivier, Juane Huson, Paul Nevombe and Glynis Huson.
In sterilising your pet you will provide better health, prevent cancers and illnesses and you will help fight the high numbers of unplanned litters which lead to overpopulation.
“With this being our focus we believe we can truly make a difference in reducing the amount of injured, suffering, untreated animals that roam the townships and the streets of Johannesburg South and Alberton,” said Nina.
Their goal is to sterilise and vaccinate as many animals as possible. The members are always trying to raise funds through online jumble sales, boerewors and prego sales, as well as building beds and boxes which they sell.
“Alternatively, when you clear out your cupboards think about donating any clothes, blankets, dog beds or anything we can sell to assist us with our project. During these tough times, we understand budgets are tight, therefore we are committed to our fund-raisers, but we will appreciate any donation,” said Nina and Sharon.
