Community invited to join in on virtual walk

In partnership with Alberton Lions, Amcare will be hosting its first Polished for Purpose Virtual Walk on March 7.

In partnership with Alberton Lions, Amcare will be hosting its first Polished for Purpose Virtual Walk on March 7.

The walk is held in aid of survivors of domestic violence. Proceeds from Polished for Purpose will be used for the services rendered through Amcare to victims of domestic violence.

With the celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, Amcare urges both men and women to paint their fingers or toenails for this walk.

Joeline du Preez of Amcare, said: “Take the dog for a walk, your children for a ride on their bicycles or even a walk on the treadmill. Walk as many metres or kilometres as you wish for this cause. Walk for a purpose, count your steps and challenge a friend to do the same.”

She encouraged corporates to make up teams of four or six and challenge each other to see who can get the most steps in per team.

“Get a sponsor for your team and let them sponsor R10 for every 100 steps you take as a team. Make a Facebook challenge on a set amount of likes and do something fun if you reach the Like count. This is similar to the Ice Bucket Challenge example,” said du Preez.

Participants are urged to take as many photos as they can on the day and post them on Facebook.

They are to tag Amcare reaching the Most Vulnerable and use the hashtags #polishedforpurpose #Amcare.

The registration fee is said to be R50 per person and is payable to the Amcare bank account: Amcare, Absa Alberton, account number 9206 478 397, branch code 631 142, account type is savings. Please use the reference Polished for Purpose.
