Resident concerned over children on the streets
Something needs to be done to ensure the safety of children begging for money on the streets.
I am very concerned about the safety of young children and babies who stand with their mothers at various intersections in Alberton.
In the streets of Alberton, many parents are beggars and they are out there begging with their children.
I know it is a very hard time for everyone, but when I drive by these mothers begging for money it worries me because they sometimes let the children do the begging.
What if a motorist loses control over his vehicle or the child slips and falls while a car is passing them.
What about the fact that their children could be an easy target of kidnapping.
These days anything is possible in our country. It is very sad because the number of homeless people is growing, and not just in our area.
How hard must it be for the mother and her child to sit at the intersections daily for long hours just to be able to get some money to buy some of their daily basic needs?
Is there a solution? How do we help these mothers?
