Handover of school shoes and sanitary pads at Danie Theron Primary School
To give back to Danie Theron Primary School, members of Alveda Masters Football Club recently visited the school to donate needy goods.
Chairperson of the club Peter Motloutsi said they took it upon themselves to give back to the community and since they have been allowed to use the school’s sports ground, they decided to give back to the school.
“This is the only public primary school in our area, and as parents, we could not allow seeing the school degenerate under our watch.
“We initially wanted to upgrade the soccer fields because sports is dying in most primary schools. With winter setting in, the biggest need was to ensure that we give confidence and dignity to the young learners, and also ensure they never again walk to school, barefoot,” he said.
Motloutsi said they also live in the area and their children also go to the same school.
“As the saying goes, charity begins at home. Most of us have had a difficult childhood, so it was easy for me to push my colleagues to help out. The school shoe project is very close to our hearts as we know the humiliation that comes with poverty.
“This is just a general donation to the school. We bought shoes for the boys and sanitary towels for the girls. The school teachers and principal know who is in need, so we left it up to them to distribute,” said Motloutsi.
He said they will be doing more projects for the school as time goes by.

“I am glad that the entire executive of Alveda Masters as well as the players are committed to doing more. We relied heavily on the contributions of the players.
“Luckily a few corporates have indicated their willingness to partner with us to upgrade the school facilities. More details will be shared once everything is finalised. We are fully aware that the current donation is a drop in the ocean, but with time, we will do more,” he said.
Deputy principal of Danie Theron Primary School, Gladys Nape, said Alveda Masters FC is one of the teams that use its grounds and they are grateful for the donations.
