WATCH: Alberton SPCA dog lovers save the day
Alberton SPCA has touched the hearts of many after saving a stray dog in Sky City recently.
Alberton SPCA dog lover Joseph Mahlangu and inspector Sipho Letsoalo have touched many hearts after their story of saving a stray dog made waves on social media.
Recently, they received a call from a homeowner in Sky City who reported that a stray dog was stuck in her fence and had been there since the previous night.
According to Letsoalo, the mixed breed furry friend now called Billie had been stuck after being chased by other dogs.
“He thought he could fit through the gap in the wall, which was about 25 to 30cm, but unfortunately got his head stuck.
“Reports suggest Billie was chased by pit bulls but was luckily not bitten,” he said.
The pair spent some time cutting and hammering at the wall and eventually freed Billie.
“He had suffered major head injuries and his head was swollen as he was trying to free himself. We rushed him to the Brackenhurst Veterinary Hospital, where the skin on his head was stitched up,” said Letsoalo.
Billie, who is described as having an amazing personality, is recovering well in their care.
Should an emergency arise, the community is advised to contact Alberton SPCA’s standby contact number on 065 616 9004.
