Today is day five (August 31) of having no water. Between July and August, we have had a total of 20 days without water.
Rand Water does not have an answer for us. They use an excuse for water restrictions.
But this begs the question if there were such huge water restrictions, why is the water running out of a pipe from South Hills water tower down South Rand Road?
There is no team on-site to repair it.
WATCH: Water finally back in South Hills
It is unconstitutional to deny anyone water. It is further, against the law to cut off water to a resident. So how is Rand Water allowed to get away with this?
Over and above, schools have been closed due to the lack of water supply. The education of the youth is being abruptly affected by Rand Water.
Should I not pay rates and taxes nor water, then everyone at Rand Water knows how to use a phone.
But when there is a problem, well they don’t answer.
To make matters even worse, as a result of having no water for 14 days last month, my electricity bill increased by R800 as I had to boil water. My children could not be expected to bathe in cold water.
An additional amount of money was spent taking our washing to a laundromat to have it washed as there was no water.
With Covid-19 making the rounds, do you think that it is wise to have people standing around in groups at water tankers to get water?
Yes, they have masks, but there is no sanitiser and everyone touches the hose. I have seen numerous school children come back from school and fill up the water at the tankers.
Keep in mind these are children. The last thing they want to do is have to go fill up water when they could be relaxing at home or studying and preparing for exams.
WATCH: The South water issue escalated to human rights
This is completely against our human rights.
The residents in Linmeyer, South Hills and surrounding areas are becoming very impatient. The lack of maintenance, poor customer service and straight-up incompetence from Rand Water is becoming increasingly common within this facility. Surely, there is someone that can do something.
There has to be a legal route. There has to be some sort of compensation for what we have had to endure at the hands of Rand Water.
