Be cautious when buying goods online

Verify everything when you buy online.

Moffat View SAPS warned community members to be cautious about the purchasing of goods online (online buying).

There have been numerous complaints about an online syndicate where criminals falsely mislead people by advertising non-existent products or goods on sale.

Moffat View SAPS communications officer Sgt Solly Matjila said this has been happening on all social media platforms.

The criminals advertise goods like vehicles, furniture, properties and clothes. They provide their banking details and contact numbers that are not registered to avoid being traced. Community members are warned to be aware of such activities.

“We advise the community to verify the seller’s details, to see the advertised product and to know the seller’s fixed address before they deposit money into the given bank account. Community members are advised to put security measures in place when doing any online buying,” he said.
