Booysens SAPS hosts breast cancer awareness campaign

On October 22, the SAPS not only created awareness of breast cancer at the Booysens Hotel but also celebrated cancer survivors.

Host Col Maxie Minnegan said, “We are here to cover everything that concerns cancer. Most people are afraid to go and get tested for cancer, especially men.

“They have a stereotype that only women can be diagnosed with cancer, which is not true. We are here to educate men that they can also get cancer,” said Minnegan.

The SAPS hopes to host more of these events, especially for the community.

“Our emphasis is about cancer as a whole. We understand that most people lack knowledge about what cancer is and most of them don’t want to talk about it. We are here to say there is nothing to be afraid of. Cancer can be beaten and people need to have faith. We are here to also celebrate cancer survivors,” she said.
