Officers team up to tackle drug problem

Officers from Brackendowns SAPS Vispol joined forces with EMPD, CPF, Fox Security, CPS Security, AfriForum and ward councillors to conduct an operation in their fight against crime and drug abuse in the area.

The operation was launched working off information received by the station from residents. Brackendowns SAPS station commander Col Munaf Ismail thanked everyone who joined in the operation during the parade preceding the operation.

“As I have said, without you, we would not be able to ensure the safety of our residents,” said Ismail.

The operation was conducted in two phases.

During the first phase, the combined forces took to the veld on Potgieter Street in Alrode, where the area was searched for dangerous weapons, illegal substances and stolen property.

As part of this visit, the relevant parties were addressed on the concerns residents have about this area and the way opened for discussions to be held on how these issues can be addressed.

During the second phase, the team targeted known hot spots for drug dealing.

During phase three, one person was arrested for possession of crystal meth and dagga and two suspects were arrested for possession of dagga.

Dagga found on a suspect.

“It is always a privilege to team up with dedicated people, assisting SAPS and standing together in fighting crime to make our streets a little safer,” said WO Gerhard Cornelius, spokesperson for Brackendowns SAPS.
