JMPD create awareness around the ‘say NO to corruption’ campaign

If you witness any misconduct by a JMPD official you can contact the JMPD internal affairs department on 0800 203 712 or send a WhatsApp to 063 253 1928.

“From 2021 to date, 14 JMPD officials have been dismissed by the department for misconduct and corruption.”

JMPD has recently launched a new ‘say no to corruption’ campaign to help remove the corruption and fraud that the city and the department faces.

This was done to help remove bad elements that found their way into the department.

Corruption and fraud is a problem faced by many municipalities in South Africa and the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) is no different with many cases being reported in the city ranging from bribes to ensure people don’t get fined to transgression to PPE corruption.

Xolani Fihla, spokesperson for the JMPD said “The Internal Affairs Unit has developed an Anti-Fraud and Corruption Ambassador Drive. This partnership is epitomized through an ambassadorship programme, where members of the community, private business and other stakeholders collaborate and work closely with the Internal Affairs Unit, by reporting any corruption or suspected corruption. From 2021 to date, 14 JMPD officials have been dismissed by the department for misconduct and corruption.”

Fihla further said “It is the responsibility of every member of society to report incidents of fraud and corruption. Through the Anti-Fraud and Corruption Ambassador Drive the department aims to build a strong foundation where the public has a greater influence in creating a corrupt-free society.”

Members from the unit visited La Rochelle on Saturday, February 12 to raise awareness of the campaign in the area.

The unit interacted with members of the public informing them of the importance of reporting any misconduct by a member of JMPD and not participating in corruption themselves.

JMPD also launched the #JMPDantiCorruption programme in which members of the public can become an ambassador for the unit to help JMPD with the fight against corruption.

If you witness any misconduct by a JMPD official you can contact the JMPD internal affairs department on 0800 203 712 or send a Whatsapp to 063 253 1928.
