Sahara was born a fighter

Sahara Peel's parents are raising funds for her to go overseas.

Funds are being raised for Sahara Peel (10) from Revival City College who has been selected to represent South Africa for karate in the USA.

Sahara has been selected to represent South Africa at the 10th WUKF World Karate Championship in July after a very strict qualifying session.

Her parents Kevin and Chantal, who many might know as the owners of National Paramedical Services, said that Sahara is a free-spirited and very determined young lady.

Sahare Peel was born a fighter and she uses karate to express herself.

“When Sahara started competing in karate we always said to her that if she was ever selected to go overseas to compete we as her parents would make a plan to make it happen. Please help us make this dream come true. We cannot afford to do it on our own so need all the support we can get,” said her parents.

Sahara is loved by everyone she knows and when you meet her she makes herself known in ways no words can describe.

Her mature personality will leave a footprint in your heart forever.

Born a fighter

From the day she was born, she had a fighting personality and a competitive side to her.

Sahara discovered the world of karate three years ago and she is part of the Cobras Shotokan Karate Club.

“My passion began when my best friend introduced me to karate as she was doing karate. I decided to try it out,” said Sahara.

Now the two best friends will be going to represent their country together.

“Even though the Covid-19 pandemic struck, this ambitious young girl never lost sight of her goals. The pandemic did not even stop her from practising even though it made it very difficult to train and learn new things as there were very few one-on-one classes,” said Chantal.

Karate is Sahara’s way of expressing herself and also her escape on bad days.

“I am in love with kata, which is a Japanese word describing detailed patterns of movements,” said Sahara.

The challenge for her is that she is very small in size and most of the time she is fighting bigger opponents.
Sahara has worked extremely hard to get where she is today in karate.

In need of funds

The competition is at the beginning of July and Sahara will be overseas for seven days. A total of R70 000 needs to be raised, but a deposit of R18 000 needs to be paid on March 11.

“I want to make my family proud,” she said.

Her parents have created a back-a-buddy page to raise funds for Sahara’s trip.

All funds raised will go towards the travelling and accommodation expenses.
