Help raise funds for Alexcia’s karate dream
A deposit needs to be paid in March for Alexcia to go to the WUKF.
Alexcia Andrade from Cobras Shotokan Karate Club has been chosen to represent South Africa during the World Karate Championships (WUKF) in Fort Lauderdale in July.
Funds are being raised for her trip to the USA. She needs R70 000 and the deposit needs to be paid on March 11.
Karate is her passion
She has been part of the club since 2019, and in the last three years, her love for karate grew.
“The best part about karate is the constant learning. It’s a sport that never stops giving as there is always something new to learn and perfect,” said Alexcia.
A challenge for her was the Covid-19 pandemic, which made it difficult to train as a club.
“I could not physically go to the dojo and had to learn my syllabus on Zoom with my sensei.”0
She is also the youngest in her belt division, so she is up against older children.
In 2021 when things started to return to normal, Alexcia was overjoyed to train for karate again.
She won gold in her age group for kata and kumite at the South Africa Championships, which were held in September 2021.
“She has won 10 gold medals and was awarded best overall karateka at her dojo in 2021,” said her mother, Kerry.
Sensei Laurent is her role model.
“He taught me that giving up is not an option. He motivates me and pushes me to go further than I think I can,” said Alexcia.
Reaching for the stars

Alexcia excelled at the trials held in Pretoria.
“Being able to go to the WUKF World Karate Championships would be a dream come true,” said Alexcia.
According to her mother, she has worked so hard to be selected to represent SA.
“Because of Covid-19, she missed her first opportunity to represent SA in Poland. Since karate is not seen as a national sport, we have to rely on individual sponsorships to make this a reality for her,” said Kerry.
Raising funds
Kerry created a Backabuddy page for Alexcia.
“Even the smallest donation will be appreciated. Our children are our future and we have to grab every opportunity.”
Those who want to donate can make it through her Backabuddy page or send an email to kerryalexcia1@gmail.com
“Alexcia and her best friend, Sahara, have so much passion to fly our SA flag,” said Kerry.
This and that

Alexcia is a very strong-willed child.
She sets herself goals and pushes her utmost to achieve them rarely not doing so.
“My daughter is so funny and loved by everyone she crosses paths with. She not only achieves in sports but academically as well. She is an amazing little girl with a heart of gold and a fighting spirit of a bull,” said Kerry.
The Andrade’s have been living in Alberton for the last 15 years. Alexcia attends Success Learning Academy in Raceview.
She has two brothers who she admires. In her spare time, she loves to dance.
“Besides karate, she also does hip-hop, modern, contemporary, tap and ballet dancing.”..
