Driver crashes into a boundary wall

A driver crashed through a boundary wall on March 3.

Angelique and Jean Potgieter’s rest was disturbed by a loud crash at around 22:00.

They found a bakkie crashed through their wall having apparently sped past the stop street.

The driver, a foreigner from Zimbabwe, did not have any insurance and only his passport with him.

According to Angelique, the battle with this stop street at the corner of Susanna Road and Wallis Road has been raging for many years.

“People don’t stop and at rush hour they drive at full speed across it,” said Angelique.

“The stop street has a speed hump, but this does not seem to affect the speed of the cars travelling down Susanna Road.”

Angelique said that there was a week where traffic officers wrote tickets to drivers jumping the stop street but after they left the status quo resumed.

“We have contacted Ekurhuleni metro multiple times to address the problem but till now nothing has been done. We are worried that this speeding will not stop and that this will lead to someone losing his or her life.”
