Nathan is an all-rounder with many talents

A cricket player with bright future in front of him.

Nathan Steyn (19) from Alberton and former Hoërskool Marais Viljoen High learner recently signed his contract with the ITEC Knights.

He has been a star cricket player in school and now he caught the eyes of a provincial cricket team.

A love for the sport

“My passion for the game started at a young age. I was crazy about watching it on TV,” he said.

He has been a star cricket player since his school days and he is planning to make a name at the University of the Free State (Kovsies) where he is studying.

“Representing the South Africa u-19 side about a year ago is one of my recent highlights. Another highlight is making the CSA Cubs team two years in a row.”

Steyn has played for many cricket teams, and each team has a treasured memory behind it.

“I am an all-rounder, which means I am comfortable with both the bat and ball in hand. The thing I enjoy most about the game is the challenges you face as a cricket player. The sport always challenges me to be better than my last match.

“A great cricket team plays as a unity. Having a good relationship with your team members and having a connection with your coach is a winning recipe,” Steyn explained.

“Cricket is my passion, and I enjoy entertaining people.”

A successful cricketer according to him is someone who others can look up to.

Dale Steyn is someone he looks up to as a mentor. “He is recognised as one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time and the best test bowler of his generation.”

He said that he is now working very hard to play for the Knights.

Steyn thanks everyone who contributed and supported his cricketing over the years.

Nathan’s life

Nathan Steyn wants to become a professional cricket player.

He was born in Springs and lived on a farm for a big part of his life before moving to Brakpan.

Steyn loved the farm life especially playing in the cattle kraal and playing cricket with his younger brother.
He went to primary School in Brakpan before coming over to begin his high school career at Hoërskool Marais Viljoen High.

In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf and hunting.

“I did play rugby and competed in athletics,” he said.

His mother, Carina, is his biggest inspiration as she is a real go-getter.

“Something that not many know about me is that I have a very small heart even though I look like a hard person.

“If you want something you never had, you have to do something you have never done,” is his motto in life.
