GRC’s Cansa Shavathon 2022 yields positives

Over R35 400 was raised when Gold Reef City (GRC) hosted an official Cansa Shavathon in association with Cansa for their staff and public on March 11 and 12.

This was their first Shavathon since Covid-19 hit in 2020 and they will endeavour to keep up the tradition every year.

Danelle Coulson, the communications manager for GRC, said the money raised for this worthy cause is the most they have managed since 2017.

“Gold Reef management was also challenged by some of our guests that pledged more than the R50 donation to shave their hair. Under the leadership of our director of operations and complex general manager Kiran Singh, management was thrilled to oblige and went bold for this worthy cause.

“As we all know, wigs are an important accessory for some cancer patients and this can only be produced with real human hair. We were fortunate enough to receive three ponytails donated on the day, which goes a long way to producing a wig for a cancer patient.

“You require a minimum of six 25cm ponytails for one wig.

“We even had a quick visit from Bunny Majaja from HOT 102.7’s Breakfast Show to make her donation. At our Theme Park, all the tenants pledged money for our facilities manager Pragasan Naidoo to shave his beard, this alone raised over R4 000.

“A massive thank you to the public that participated and to the GRC staff and management for their support,” she said.
