Kiara won a gold medal at the IMMAF

Kiara Fegen managed to get the fastest submission of the tournament with an arm bar in the first 44 seconds of round one.

The International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) hosted the IMMAF All Africa Amateur MMA Championships in Johannesburg recently.

Seven African nations converged on Johannesburg, bringing 47 of their top amateur athletes to represent their country.

The tournament ran over three days at the EFC Performance Institute, seeing a total of 36 bouts for both men and women.

Among the athletes that took part was Kiara Fegen from Valhalla MMA & Fitness in Alberton North who fought in the Women’s Lightweight (70.3kg) division, beating a fellow South African to secure a gold medal.

She also managed to get the fastest submission of the tournament with an armbar in the first 44 seconds of round one.

Team South Africa walked away with 17 medals.

“Kiara has been training at Valhalla MMA & Fitness for over five years. She is currently a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and coaches the women-only Jiu-Jitsu class,” said head coach Shane Carr.

She is also a decorated submission grappling and Jiu-Jitsu athlete featuring as a top contender and a force to be dealt with in her division.
