Baseball Home Run Derby to be hosted as a fundraiser

The community is invited to show their support to commemorate the Southern Stars Baseball Club’s new home grounds.

A Baseball Home Run Derby will be held by the Southern Stars Baseball Club to commemorate their new home grounds and to raise funds to start a junior baseball team.

The club, known as Stars, was founded in 2010 and has been competing in the senior reserve league playing out of the Germiston grounds.

Shaun Niemand of the club said they were very excited to have partnered with Alberton Cricket Club and look forward to the potential growth.

“Come to the Alberton Cricket Club on August 27, there will be a baseball game starting at 10:00 and thereafter the derby will begin at 12:00 with R10 for per hit, R50 for six hits and R100 for 15 hits. With food on sale and a cash bar, the day promises to be packed with action and fun,” he said.

He said they are looking forward to seeing community members at the family fun event to welcome baseball back to Alberton.
