Trial for Forest Hill murder case postponed to September

Her family wants the case to continue as soon as possible.

The family of the slain Jamillah van Staden feels dejected after the trial of the murder case set for May 23 and 24 was postponed to September 6 and 7.

They heard this at Booysens Magistrate’s Court on May 23, where the murder accused Kleave van Staden briefly appeared in court.

Van Staden is accused of murdering his wife, Jamillah, on January 8 last year in Forest Hill.

The magistrate mentioned that the CCTV where the witnesses, who are minors, were supposed to testify was not working.

Jamillah’s mother Zainnab Abraham said this case needs to be concluded, as the family has been through a lot.
Five witnesses are set to be called for the trial, which includes two minors, an adult, a police officer and a paramedic.

It will be the third time this case will be sitting for trial in September. The magistrate said she will exercise Section 342A of Act 51 of 1977 if it doesn’t sit again in September.

This means they might withdraw the case due to unreasonable delays.
