3 suspects fatally wounded and 3 arrested in Chrisville

The Hawks does not rule out the possibility of more suspects being arrested and linked to more crimes.

Three suspects were fatally wounded and three others arrested in a shootout with an integrated multi-disciplinary law enforcement team at Chrisville on April 16.

In a statement by the Directory for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), they said crime intelligence-led information prompted an operation of members of SAPS Head Office Crime Intelligence, Gauteng Traffic Saturation Unit, DPCI Tactical Operations Management Section (TOMS), Gauteng Traffic Police Airwing, CAP Specialised Operations, Tracker Connect, Badboyz Security, JH Tactical and ISEC Security.

The team received information on suspects who have been terrorising the suburbs of Johannesburg, allegedly committing violent crimes that included over 30 murders.

When the team arrived at the identified premises, they were met with gunfire. The team returned fire and in the ensuing shootout, three of the suspects were fatally wounded and three others were apprehended. The team recovered two unlicensed firearms from the scene.

The arrested suspects will appear in court soon while the investigation continues. The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation does not rule out the possibility of more suspects being arrested and linked to more crimes.
