Acting on information about a hijacking in progress, the task team pursued the suspects with backup from the Flying Squad, EMPD, JMPD, SAPS Airwing, and CPS Security.
CPS Security representative Tyrone van der Merwe explained: “A member of the SAPS Trio Task Team drove past a hijacking in progress, intervened, and called for backup. The suspects were in two separate getaway cars and were armed as they attempted to hijack a Toyota Quantum. Their attempt was unsuccessful, and a chase ensued. The suspects were eventually stopped on the N12 highway. Three suspects are currently being held until they can be formally arrested.”
The suspects in the second vehicle managed to evade capture, although the other getaway vehicle was impounded after the suspects were caught.
