6 arrested in cable theft operation in Winchester Hills and Glenanda

The swift joint operation between community patrollers, private security firms and law enforcement led to the arrest of the suspects.

Six suspects were arrested following a coordinated operation in Winchester Hills and Glenanda after reports of cable theft in the area.

Mondeor CPF Sector 2 received a call for assistance from Guardian Security after intelligence was received about suspects allegedly stealing electrical cables in Matroosberg Street, Winchester Hills.

Members of Mondeor CPF Sector 2 responded immediately and were swiftly joined by Fox Security.

A search of a nearby stormwater drain led to the arrest of three suspects. They were found in possession of cut electrical cables and equipment believed to have been used to commit the crime.

Three additional suspects were arrested along with the vehicle by JMPD K9 and Fox Security. In total, six suspects were taken into custody.

The chairperson of Mondeor CPF Sector 2, Shane Thavar, praised the swift response and cooperation between all parties involved.

“This operation shows what can be achieved when law enforcement, private security companies and community structures work together. Our priority is to protect our infrastructure and keep our community safe,” he said.
