SASSA reviews 210 000 beneficiaries’ accounts amidst payment delays
Payment delays may be due to unverified status.
SASSA is reviewing over 210 000 flagged beneficiary accounts due to suspected undisclosed income, causing payment delays and distress.
Affected individuals must visit local offices with the required documents, such as three-month bank statements and their Identity Document (ID), to avoid permanent suspension.
“We understand the frustration and anxiety this process may cause, but we are committed to ensuring the integrity of our system,” said spokesperson for SASSA, Paseka Letsatsi.
Required documents include a valid SA ID, proof of residence, proof of income, and three months of bank statements.
SASSA has collaborated with credit bureaus, banks, and Home Affairs to identify inconsistencies in income reporting.
A Tulisa Park resident, Abraham Tlholoko (71), outlined his issues with the review crisis.
“I was not informed if I was under review; my payment was simply withheld by SASSA. I must now spend money I do not have to go to a SASSA office to find out what the problem is,” said Tlholoko.
Beneficiaries are advised to verify their status directly with SASSA to avoid falling victim to misinformation.
