Waterstone College host Halala Football Cup
Tournament praised for high-level matches at Waterstone’s brilliant facilities.
Waterstone College hosted the annual Halala Football Cup group stage from April 18 to April 19, with the two-day tournament drawing strong support from players, parents, and the local football community.
The event was hailed a great success, with Waterstone’s top-class facilities setting the stage for high-level matches.
The fields, technical areas, and spectator stands created an authentic match-day atmosphere that visiting teams praised throughout the weekend.
The highlight for the home crowd came when Waterstone College delivered a commanding 5-1 win against Barberton High and a 5-0 win over Woodhill College, showcasing clinical finishing and disciplined defending. The result capped off a strong showing from the school’s squad across both days of competition.
Teams from across the region competed in the annual cup, which promotes school-level football development and sportsmanship.
Coaches noted the high standard of play and the professional setup, which made for a memorable experience for young players.
Director at Waterstone College, JC Engelbrecht, said the school was proud to host the tournament.
“The Halala Football Cup is a cornerstone of the school’s sporting calendar, and this year really showed why. Our grounds team kept the pitches immaculate, which allowed every player to express themselves properly.
“A 5-0 win for our boys was fantastic, but more important was the teamwork they showed on the pitch,” said Engelbrecht.
“The attitude of the players and coaches made this tournament feel authentic and competitive. We’re grateful to every school that participated and we already can’t wait for the next stage,” he said.
