Mastery requires effort and patience

Be willing to wait and have patience in order to achieve great things.

You’ve to be willing to lean into things that you want. The truth is, not only do we have to put our weight into the things that we want, but we also must be willing to wait because certain things, especially valuable ones, take time.

It’s the natural law of gestation.

You don’t plant the seed in the ground and expect it to sprout immediately, no, you must wait until this gestation and inner transformation takes place.

The roots must grow first to secure the plant before the sprout comes out of the ground, this takes time.

Sadly, we want everything to sprout without the roots (mastery). You can’t get the fruits without the roots and there’s no substitute for that! So, for us to master anything, we must be willing to grow the roots first and it takes time – remember the 10 000 hours rule/guide by Malcolm Gladwell.

To go high in a trampoline, you must first go deeper in it. For a building to go higher, its foundation must be deep and stronger. If you want an arrow to go forward, you must pull it further back. Most of the things in life are counterintuitive.

So, when it comes to this concept of mastery or excellence, you need:

1. To have a deep desire for it. That is, I want to be the best at what it is that I do.

2. To find a great example of what mastery or excellence looks like for your industry or profession. Look for that person or persons that represent mastery or excellence in your field. Once found,

3. Surround yourself with them. As you get close to that excellence,

Begin to study the details of excellence because as you pull back the layers and study the details, you’ll understand, oh wow!
