The power is in our hands to rewrite our narrative
Constructive dialogue will help to shape a better country.

As I sit down to write this, I am swept by a wave of both concern and hope. Our nation, once a symbol of triumph over division, appears to be teetering towards a troubling brink, a painful regression into old wounds that we have fought so hard to overcome.
It is essential that we pause, reflect, and confront the realities of our current situation, one marked by rising tensions, deepening divides, and a growing chorus of anger between our communities.
I was born into a new era, one that blossomed with the promise of equality, and the promise of freedom and equality, yet, today, I find myself haunted by a stark contrast. The idealism that painted our shared dreams now feels like a fading echo, as voices of hatred and resentment grow louder. But I refuse to believe that this is the future we are destined to accept.
We have the power to rewrite our narrative, to rise above the strife, and to embrace one another as brothers and sisters. Let us remember the sacrifices made by those who fought tirelessly for our liberation.
They envisioned a South Africa where unity prevailed over division, where our diversity was celebrated, not weaponized. We must carry that torch forward.
We must cultivate a culture of understanding, compassion, and love – resilience rooted not just in the words we speak, but in the actions, we take every day. Imagine a country where we redirect our anger and disillusionment into the fertile soil of cooperation and unity.
A place where we acknowledge our shared struggles and honour our narratives. Together, we can become a beacon of hope, a shining example of how reconciliation and collaboration can lead us towards a brighter future.
I implore you, let us not succumb to the shadows of our past; instead, let us courageously step into the light of possibility.
Network, dialogue, and actively listen to one another. Do not stand back as bystanders in this critical moment of our history. Stand up and be the change, foster respect and dignity for every individual, regardless of skin colour.
The journey will not be easy, nor will it be swift; but we hold the key to forging a new path together. We have a choice to perpetuate the cycle of anger or to pursue understanding.
Let us choose love over hate, unity over division. Together, we can restore the hope that once defined our great nation.
Yours in solidarity,
Nicole Loggenberg, One Love Peace Movement
