Support to local canoe race

Greg and Roland Smith from Alberton

Sponsorship by a Midvaal firm, Hi Performance Feeds, will support the local canoe race between Daleside and Meyerton near the R59 Vereeniging highway for some years. The race, which was organised by the Watuni Canoe club which is based at North West University, took place on Saturday September 7.

The 22km race started in Daleside at André Nortje’s farm under the bridge and finished at Danie Maclean Park in Meyerton with a short portage hop over the Kidson Weir in Henley on Klip where canoeist carry their boats across the weir to continue their race.

Greg and Roland Smith from Alberton have both been canoeist for many years and enjoy participating in the most difficult challenges available. They finished the Klip River race in fourth position in a time of 1h25 and are looking forward to the A-grade Hansa Fish river canoe marathon which takes place at the end of September in Cradock in the Eastern Cape.
