Khanyisile continues to raise the South African flag in England
Young netball stars shines in England.
FOURTEEN-year-old Khanyisile Goba has been a netball star since Grade One at Waterstone College continues to raise the South African flag high in England.
Having received a scholarship to study at an all-girls boarding school in England, bubbly Khanyisile has been making strides in both the sport and her studies.
She said her biggest motivation has been her mother who has supported her netball dream.
“My family has been there for me since day one and they continue to support me as I strive to be a better young lady in sport and other extra curricular activities,” she said.
Khanyisile said adjusting to the learning system in England was great as she was learning new things every day.
As a foreigner she believes in the importance of upholding one’s national values.
“My motto is never forget your roots and in England I have been trying to make all the beautiful things about South Africa known. I teach my friends and classmates about my country and they are always eager to learn,” she added.
Apart from netball, Khanyisile believes young people should be given the opportunity to contribute positively to the community.
She wants to apply to join the Teenage Cancer Trust in England, an organisation raising awareness of the disease across different schools.
“I am also involved in campaigns for feminists issues at my school. Being a girls only school, we are all about seeing women conquer the world and it begins when we are young,” Khanyisile added.
She has, however, appealed to the South African Netball Association to consider a national team for the u-14s and u-15s who would like to pursue netball competitions at national level.
Khanyisile’s mother, Hlengiwe Pamela Goba, believes her child is a rare breed who inspires many everywhere she goes.
“Khanyi is a brave child and very hardworking. Balancing sport and school work can be difficult for some children but she aims for the best in all divisions, she recently passed with As and Bs,” she said
She urged the SA Netball Association to follow her daughter’s progress in England as she continues to raise the country’s flag high through playing netball.
