Thysse bags bragging rights of 4@War
The next tournament will take place on December 12 presented by Golden Gloves Promotions.
Finally the hammer has gone down to establish the long-awaited winner for the junior middleweight championship belt and the special commemorative ring for the finals of 4@War.
Back 4 Battle presented by Golden Gloves Promotions took place on October 10 and incorporated the finals of 4@War.
Brandon Thysse, who resides in Germiston, and son of the well-known champion boxer, Andre Thyssse, had only one hurdle to overcome for the bragging rights and that was to get the slick boxer, Boyd Allen from Springs, into submission.
He had 10 scheduled rounds in the junior middleweight tournament to overcome the current holder of the World Boxing Association (WPA) Pan African belt titles, Allen, and walk away victorious. But instead he made no scruples of the fight and used only three rounds to land a big left hook that shook Allen as he went down to the canvas.
Allen got up but still hung onto the ropes in the corner and was given the full count by referee Jaap van Nieuwenhuysen.
Thysse won by KO in 2:59 minutes. Much deliberation followed afterwards by the early stoppage by the referee but was overruled by Stan Christodoulidou saying that the referee stopped the fight at the right time.
“It is better to stop too early than too late and save the boxer for another fight.” Thysse improved his record 14-2-1 (11) and Allen’s record drops to 5-1-1(4).
Roarke Knapp from Edenvale stopped Tristan Truter from Boksburg at one minute two seconds into the second round to capture the third place of 4@War.
Knapp continued with his good form and dropped Truter with sizeable punches to the body and a right to the jaw to see his opponent stumble against the ropes and beat the count. Referee Tony Nyangiwe waved the fight off as he was in no condition to continue.
Jabulani Makhense stooped Eric Kapia in the WBA Pan African welterweight fight at 2:59 of the first round. Fight of the night belongs to cruiserweight southpaw Lebogang Mashitoa from the South’s Unleashed Sports Combat gymnasium.
He won on points over 10 rounds against Keaton Gomes in a return match. This was the powerhouse from the South’s (8-1-2; 2) second win over Gomes (6-2; 4).
The opening bout of the evening saw super middleweight Cowin Ray, who hails from the South, return to the ring after a two-year lay-off. He stopped Karabo Mokupi in great fashion at 2:54 in the second round.
