Calling all junior hockey players for on open day

Johannesburg South Hockey Club wants to create a family atmosphere, where everyone is welcome.

South Hockey Club invites all aspiring hockey players, from u-10 to u-18, girls and boys, to join them for an open day on April 9 at Waterstone College’s Astroturf in Kibler Park from 10:00 to 13:00.

Michael Richards said they would like all junior hockey players, from beginners to experienced juniors, to attend because they want to develop and grow the sport of hockey in Johannesburg South.

“On the day, we will have fun and an exciting open day where we will do training and play games. We want the players to join our club. Our junior teams compete in the Southern Gauteng Hockey Association League. We offer training with qualified coaches and we also offer individualised training programmes.

“We call our junior section The Golden Spartans. We believe the passion and bravery of the ancient Spartans is something that resonates with our youth. At Johannesburg South Hockey Club, we want to create a family atmosphere, where everyone is welcome.

“We also started to pilot a coaching programme called modified hockey, where we encourage pre-school children to develop their ball skills,” he said.
