Box Office Gym to host their first Giant event of the year
Three Master Box South African titles will be contested. The most notable is a match between Johnny Koen and Grant Habib.
The Box Office Gym will host its first Giant event of the year on March 25 this year.
According to the gym’s owner, Anton Gilmore, the venue and the time are not yet finalised because they expect more than 2 000 people.
“More information will be released when the full card and venue are finalised.
“Three Master Box South Africa titles will be contested, the most notable being a match between Johnny Koen and Grant Habib.
“Habib returned to the ring last November against me and, since then, has had two more white-collar fights. The fight has been the talk of the town since it was announced last month, and both fighters have 400 seats tentatively sold 10 weeks before the event.
“Johnny, who has engaged Derek van Tonder to train him, will fight in memory of his father, Herbie Vermeulen, who adopted him as a child.”
Koen said that all proceeds from his sponsorship will be donated to Walking Tall with Pride, a feeding programme run by Gilmore and Eric and Paulina Houniet at the Ridge Park Bowling Centre, which has served more than 65 000 meals in five years.
Habib said his first fight against Gilmore changed his life for the better.
“With my girlfriend expecting my second child one month before the event, I want to show my kids what a dad will do to make sure his family comes first. I will do whatever it takes to keep them safe and proud,” Habib said.
Meanwhile, Box Office hosts the boxing project Fight with Insight for Rosettenville’s impoverished children. It takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays at 16:00, and they also have a Saturday 08:30 boot camp.
Box Office Gym is open for group classes on Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00, Monday to Thursday from 17:00 to 18:00 and Saturday boot camp from 8:30 to 10:00.
