Local weightlifter gears up for big competition
Laryne Jefferies of Movement Crew took part in a local weightlifting meet and looks forward to her next big competition.
Laryne Jefferies works hard at pushing her limits in weightlifting because she believes it is crucial to do so to make progress.
The self-employed fashion designer recently showed off her talents at a weightlifting competition.
This followed her international debut when she bagged silver and three bronze medals at the African Senior Weightlifting Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
Jefferies, a member of Movement Crew, a strength and CrossFit gym in Brackenhurst, said she was proud of her win, especially after being back in action.

“I competed this past weekend at a weightlifting meet hosted at my home training facility. It was the first time back on the platform since competing in Egypt in November last year. It was good to get some platform time, to see where I am at in my training and what to work on leading up to the next competition, the Gauteng Champs next month,” she said.
She won gold in the 71kg weight class and was the first female overall in the competition.
Jefferies said she is excited about this year’s competitions and hopes to set foot on the international stage to represent SA again.
