Vodacom Bulls win as Lions’ comeback falls short

Second-half surge, yellow card, and costly mistakes leave Emirates Lions struggling to recover in a hard-fought derby.

The Vodacom Bulls gained momentum early in the second half when Quan Horn’s yellow card left the Emirates Lions with 14 men on February 23.

Canan Moodie capitalised with his second try, and David Kriel’s conversion extended the Bulls’ lead to 24-14.

Multiple Lions penalties led to Marco van Staden’s try in the 55th minute, pushing the Bulls to 31 points.

Despite a spirited response, Richard Kriel’s 67th-minute try wasn’t enough, as errors and a disallowed score sealed the Lions’ fate.
