Kuse lands world title shot against WBC champion Jerusalem at Emperors Palace

South Africa’s Siyakholwa Kuse will challenge Filipino titleholder Melvin Jerusalem for the WBC mini-flyweight belt on May 16 in a high-stakes rematch on home soil.

Boxing fans will be thrilled to know that one of the brightest stars in South African boxing, Siyakholwa Kuse, will get a shot at fighting WBC mini-flyweight world champion, Melvin Jerusalem of the Philippines, for the latter’s belt.

The fight will take place at Emperors Palace on May 16.

The announcement was made at the East Rand resort and casino on February 27 and gives Kuse, who fights out of the Brian Mitchell Boxing Academy in Edenvale, the opportunity not only to get a shot at redemption but also to make history.

Kuse lost to the Filipino world champion in a closely contested fight in the Philippines in October last year.

Should Kuse win, he will become only the second South African to win a WBC world title in a fight on home soil since Dingaan ‘The Rose of Soweto’ Thobela 26 years ago.
