Coming up on Carte Blanche

On M-Net & M-Net HD [101], Sunday September 28 at 19:00

JOHANNESBURG – TB Joshua

On Friday September 12, Nigerian pastor TB Joshua’s name became synonymous with the death of 115 people when one of the buildings collapsed at his Synagogue Church of All Nations in Lagos, burying bodies in the rubble. It is now known that the majority of those dead – 84 people – were South Africans. Carte Blanche continues to investigate this tragic event and asks – what draws people to the so-called ‘Prophet’?

PE Metro

Big businesses in Port Elizabeth have collaborated to withhold R150-million in electricity surcharges, in an effort to break the council’s stranglehold and halt job losses. Business owners and residents are standing up to their city council like never before as they accuse the metro of drastically hiking municipal bills to recover funds lost to corruption and gross mismanagement. Carte Blanche investigates.

Presenter: Bonita Nuttall

Hijack City

A car hijacker speaks as we investigate the inner workings of syndicates behind this crime. The recently released SAPS Annual Crime Statistics showed a 12.3 per cent increase in hijackings – a dangerous upward trend as this crime spikes for the second year in a row. Carte Blanche also takes to the road with a vehicle recovery team and asks how drivers – especially of high-end cars – should protect themselves and their loved ones from hijackers.

Producer: Nicky Troll

Presenter: Devi Sankaree Govender

Elderly Drivers

When are you too old to drive? With increasingly poor eyesight, slow reactions and diminished levels of concentration, how does one tell a geriatric loved one that it’s time to hang up the keys? Carte Blanche asks whether elderly motorists are a danger on our roads and if laws around the renewing of an older person’s driver’s license should be stricter?

Producer: Jo Munnik

Presenter: Devi Sankaree Govender
