*CARNIVAL City Macsteel Kiddies Cycle Races will be hosting a mountain bike race (6km) on November 5 at R40 per entry and starts at 07:00. The ever-popular road race to be held on November 6. Lucky draw for two brand-new bicycles plus prizes and medals for each race. Ages two to 8 years old, R50 per entry. Arrival time 07:30 for on-site entries. Racing starts at 09:00. *NAPPY RUN on Saturday, November 5, the National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities in South Africa (NCPPDSA) will host their annual Nappy Run to promote the cause of children with disabilities. Help raise awareness and funds for nappies by taking part in the 5km fun walk/run at the Johannesburg Zoo in Parktown. Entry is R90 for adults and R45 for children four to 12 years old. Children younger than four years old enter free and families enjoy the zoo after the event. Registration starts at 07:30 until 08:30 and the run will start at 09:00. Tickets to the event can be purchased online at www.nappyrun.org.za or during registration on the morning of the event.
*COUNTRY Crafters will be at 101 Klipriver Drive, Mulbarton, on November 5, from 09:00 to 14:30. Browse and spend your hard-earned cash on something unique and different: plants, indigenous and otherwise, and jams, crochet and hand-knitted items, handmade soaps and cards, picture frames made to order, bespoke cat toys and dainty gifts, plus secondhand books. *SA MILITARY History Society gets together on November 10 at 20:00 the auditorium of the Museum of Military History, Erlswold Way, Saxonwold (next to the zoo). First event will be “The personal experiences of German Submariners in the Southern Oceans from 1939 to 1945” by Evert Kleynhans with the main lecture about “Kipling and his son; the Private Tragedy of a Public Man” by Marjorie Dean. The society holds meetings with lectures on the second Thursday of each month. Wives are welcome to come along with their husbands.
