Find your inner zen with tai chi

"Everyone can do Tai Chi, no matter what race, religion, age, fitness levels, or anything like that"

RIETVLEI experienced a truly zen day when it hosted the World Tai Chi Day on May 29. World Tai Chi Day is covers more than 80 countries from east to west. The event was held at Rietvlei for the third successive year. Anyone who wished to get involved could do so.

“Everyone can do tai chi, no matter what race, religion, age, fitness levels, or anything like that. It truly is for everyone and we would like to use it as a tool for the advancement of health and peace around the world,” said Craig Boden, one of the organisers and a member of the Tai Chi Chuan Institute Alberton.

People with different afflictions and diseases, such as diabetes, were called up to participate and different “forms” (tai chi and qigong) were used for “treatment” of these ailments.

“We would like to demonstrate the health benefits and healing properties of tai chi and qigong to the public. You don’t need expensive equipment or clothing. It can be practised anywhere as you don’t need a lot of space. It can be practised indoors or outdoors,” added Boden.

It was a lovely day, with great weather, and Boden was pleased with the turnout.
