Prolific Pretty: Soprano Yente to perform at Monte
MONTECASINO - World-renowned opera singer Pretty Yende will soon grace the stage of the Teatro at Montecasino.
The prolific artist has performed in venues such as Teatro Alla Scala in Rome, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and Wigmore Hall in London.
Earlier this year President Jacob Zuma bestowed one of South Africa’s highest honours, the Order of Ikhamanga in Silver, upon Yende.
The award was in recognition of her remarkable achievements locally and internationally as a musician, role model and ambassador for the country.
This is an impressive feat for the young singer who was exposed to opera only ten years ago, when she heard it playing as background music in a British Airways TV commercial.
This moment changed Yente’s life and she went on to graduate cum laude from the University of Cape Town with a performer’s diploma in opera.
Yente then started entering local opera competitions before gaining huge international success.
The Telegraph has said of Yente, “Possessed of diamante tone and a megawatt smile, the young South African soprano Pretty Yende seems to take charge of the stage wherever she goes.”
Catch Yende in performance on 14 November.
