Montecasino supports disabled employees

Entertainment precinct Montecasino has embraced the concept of representing the disabled community in their employee base.

Montecasino’s Disability Integration Programme was launched in March 2012, and currently Montecasino employs 27 disabled people.

Montecasino has focused on removing barriers to their integration programme in three principal areas.

They have done this by conducting environmental accessibility audits to remove the obvious physical barriers in the infrastructure of the workplace. Montecasino has instituted disability awareness training to remove attitudinal barriers, and they have also conducted a review of recruitment, selection and induction policies to establish fair access to employment opportunities for applicants with disabilities.

Some of the changes to the environment that Montecasino has undertaken are the provision of assistive devices such as hearing aids, larger computer screens, and better workstations and bathroom facilities. They have also reviewed several job profiles to ensure that reasonable accommodation measures have been suitably included to pave the way for promotions and better job performance.

Montecasinos training department also introduced suitable development courses to teach skills to disabled employees and enrich their working experience.

According to Tati Tsunke, Montecasinos human resources manager, the programme has realised marked success on two levels.

She said, “It has been a successful programme in terms of career progression with existing employees who have disabilities. Secondly, it has created a greater sensitivity in the workplace to the disabled community.”
